Food that I want to eat – Spicy Rice Cake (Ddbubokki)

I have eaten them before in Sydney and I love them. This snack is loved by many, young and old, girls and boys. I never make spicy one but I do in my own way to cook it (see below for my recipe).

I think when I am in Korea I want to experience to buy them from the side of the street or market and eat them.

I did mention above that I cooked them in my own way. I happened to have rice cake lingering around and mincemeat however I don’t have Gochujhang (spicy red Pepper paste).

Panfry rice cake
Ingredients:

  • Rice cake
  •  Mincemeat (any kind you like)
  • 2 cloves of Garlic
  • Soy sauce (I use Maggie seasoning soy sauce)
  • 3 tblsp Sesame oil
  • Vegetable oil
  • Gochugaru (Red pepper powder) this is optional

Steps:
  • In hot pan, with vegetable oil and pan fried rice cake until crispy and put aside. (you might need to do it in batches)
  • In hot pan as well, pour the sesame oil,  and garlic panfry until fragrant
  • Put mince meat on the pan and panfry until half cook
  • Put the panfried rice cake to the pan
  • Pour the soy sauce and Gochugaru and combine
  • serve
Easy right? Well I am not a cook book maker so this is will do.

My Love of Korea doesn't stop with learning language, obsesse with Keith Kim K-DRAMA or K-Pop and eat lots of dduboki. I tried korean cooking as well.

Some of the really easy and some of the need Labour of loves and sweat. And if you are first timer, it might cost you lots (all the paste and the powder)

Nether the lest, I love maangchi she has you tube channel as well. My favorite is seafood pancake (cos it's easy)

Beside Maangchi, I like trifood

Favorite Korean TV Show

Dae Jang Geum
My love of Korea started from the Korean Drama. The best that I couldn't forget is called Dae Jang Geum or Jewel of the Palace.

This series is very Entertaining as well as very scary in different way. Like any other K-Drama this is very addictive. I did mentioned to you that this is very scary, I will tell you why, every day me any my ex-flatmate we watch at least 2 episodes and after that we both get just very hungry because looking all the good food and I can tell you we can eat Korean food everyday in a week.
Since this is my favorite K-Drama whenever I cook Korean Food, the song (hymn?) that they usually play when they cook something, played in my head.

Of course, there are a lot of  good K-Drama but there is nothing can over come as much as Dae Jang Geum for my opinion.

This is another for me a good K-Drama that doesn't involved lots of cry and sickness, called Sun of My Master. This is a funny Drama with horror twisted thriller.

I love this is my Favorite Variety show. This variety show is the one push me to learn Korean Language. The show has a lot of Gag affect and people might think it is not as funny as they think. (You know everybody are different).

this picture is taken from sbs.com.au

The permanent cast is Lee Kwang Soo, Kim Jong Kook, Yoo Jae suk, Song Ji ho, Song Jong KI (left), Ji Suk Jin, Haha and Kang Gary. They actually came to Australia not long ago and did recorded in Gold Coast and Melbourne. They did come to Sydney however just to look around (free time I believe).

The Superman is back

Beside the title of the show might trick you, but this is about the celebrities dads looking after their children for about 48 hours. It is very refreshing type of shows, cute and innocent kids with their celebrity dad. Kids might or might not know their dad is very famous but for them they just their dad

So tell me what show do you like and why.

Adriano Zumbo

I understand this is not Korean related, I just want to show my gratitude for him to lives and create all the yummy goodness in world.
He is a genius in term of sweets world. This is some of his creation.

I went to his branch on the Star and lurkin into the Zonut (Zumbo's intrepert from cronut) since I never tried the real cronut I will say this is very nice. Zumbo change zonut flavor every saturday and minimum 5 zonuts every customer. Unfortunately, I don't have zonut picture, yes i am a greedy pig, me and friends devour within 2 minutes. ehhehehehehehe

Zumbo can be very expensive and it is happen just a treat now and then for me (think of the holiday in October thats all).

Anyway good good good..

How much is this?

Yes I love shopping,  lots of kind of shopping and mostly junk shopping (I see them as an investment).
Now I will tell you to ask them how much is it in korea.

how much is this  "얼마예요?" ol-ma-e-yo? last words has to rise cos this is a question.

Since I might forgot all the vocabulary I learnt, let's learn (igo)

" 이 거 "Igo means "this" and it's better for you to point the things that you want. Remember need to be close to you.

Kego is for something a bit further to you.
I did posted the Korean Numbering, however I went to china and Japan the international language for how much is it is to give them your calculator. Are you surprised?

Based on my experience if there is no price tag:
1. Never ever have attachment with the goods that you like even if you have, don't show it
2. You turn on your calculator,
3. with Tarzan language point the stuff that you want vigorously,
4. give them your calculator pray the they return it back,
5. they will gives you the price, if you happy with it I suggest you smile and gives the money.
6. If not type the number you think it's worth it, give it to the seller. Please note this is not working if you are in the big shopping mall.
7. If the seller happy with the price they will grunt but they say yes yes..angrily but then put the stuff u want to plastic bag, of course you need to say thank you.
8. if seller not happy unfortunately seller will be angry then type the number (hopefully smaller) 8. If you still not happy, you say "no.. no.." turn your back and pretend to go...
9. By this time the seller might call you or might let you go.

Well I use this tactic when I when to China or Indonesia.

I hope it will works in Korea

Hangeul or Korean Alphabet

Wow how rude I am not to tell you or show you about the Korean alphabet
Please see below

This is taken from factzo

This blocky alphabet was invented on Sejong of Joseon Dynasty. This alphabet is adapted from chinese writing just less hidden catch (you know the intonation etc). on the link there is some of the history behind Hangul if you are not happy with the website just type "Korean Alphabet" and Mr. Google will be happily to show you lots and lots of other website.

How to use:
1. Just like in English we have to pair it up the Consonant and vocal some times 2 alphabet (think of At, On, Ma) or sometimes 3 alphabet (think of And, Tea) to  make syllable.
2. if a word start with a vocal rather than consonant they will start with ie - ung or

I have a good example (at least good for me): Mother 엄 마 this is pronounce as Om-ma not Ngo-ma.

of course there might be have more rule that you have to know, but this is the general rule that you need to know in this stage.

once you remember all the alphabet you ready to read lots of things (without knowing the meaning...)
